You do not need to pay anyone to dispute inaccurate information. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) gives you the right to see your file (Section 609), to have inaccurate items reinvestigated (Section 611), and to dispute directly with the company that reported them (Section 623). The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) lets you demand that a collector validate a debt (Section 809). These templates help you exercise those rights.
Frequently asked questions
What is a credit dispute letter?
A credit dispute letter is a written request that asks a credit bureau or creditor to investigate and correct information you believe is inaccurate, incomplete, or unverifiable on your credit report. The Fair Credit Reporting Act gives every consumer the right to dispute such items.
Are these dispute letter templates free?
Yes. Every template on this page is free to copy and use. You can send them yourself, or use Storehouse360 to generate bureau-specific letters from your actual report and mail them automatically.
Which dispute letter should I use?
Use a bureau dispute (Section 611) for inaccurate items, a 609 letter to request the information in your file, a debt validation letter for a collector, a direct dispute (Section 623) to challenge the creditor itself, a method of verification letter after a "verified" result, and goodwill or pay-for-delete letters for accurate items you want removed as a courtesy or through negotiation.
Do dispute letters guarantee items will be removed?
No. No letter can guarantee removal. What the law guarantees is your right to an investigation — bureaus and creditors must correct or delete information that is inaccurate or that cannot be verified. Results depend on what is actually on your report.
